Deserted Spring

Spring is here, but it is still winter cold in New York City. If you follow me on instagram you'd know I've been in NYC for a couple of days now. I am excited to be here; I love New York.  The weather has been crazy, it's been really cold and windy. It actually snowed on the first day of spring.

For today's look I skipped the coat and wore a light draped jacket instead. Draped jackets are the must-have transitioning piece this year. They were seen everywhere during the winter, they're  transitioning into spring and are definitely light enough to make summer outfits more stylish.

Though it is spring and I could've added some color to this neutral jacket, the snow and the weather had me feeling, 'neutral'! Since I decided to go with earthy tones and the look is pretty simple, I made sure I added statement pieces. The hat was perfect for keeping me warm, and the fact that hats are trending is a plus. I matched the hat with my favorite tall boots which are also a statement and wore a belt to complete the look. I carried a red bag that day to add a little fun to the outfit.
I honestly feel like red is a neutral and I can literally wear it with anything. It's not everyone's cup of tea, I know... But, don't be afraid to wear red. It is more wearable than you think, I assure you.

Do you like red? Are you into Hats? ...Can You Style It?

Uptown Funk

Overalls have been trending for a while now and though I was a little skeptical about them at first, I'm all about styling them. I would wear denim overalls to school (all the time) back in the 90's; they were just so cool and comfy. Now they're back and I decided to style them the way I did back in the day, but with a modern twist of course.

Unlike denim overalls this black one doesn't necessarily have to be dressed up to be wearable. I went very 90's with the styling and made it street chic. To add some sass I wore a crop top and left  one side of the jumper open. I styled it with this metallic pointy shoes to add some funk and the crossbody bag finishes the look with an unexpected pop of color.

I look forward to styling this overall in many different ways. This kind of overall can be turned into an even more casual wear, it can be glammed up and can totally be worn for the office. I love versatile, unique and statement pieces like this.

Are you guys into overalls? Would you rock them? ... Can You Style It?

Mustard & Stripes

Spring is around the corner so I’m bringing my flowy colorful skirts out to play. Even though Puerto Rico is a tropical island and we always have summer weather, I try to dress according to seasons.

This outfit came together the same way all my “best” outfits come to life… In a rush! I swear you guys, every time I have to run and get dressed in like 10 minutes I come up with the best pairings. It happens in the most random ways; I never style something this cute when I’m trying really hard.

This striped shirt and the mustard skirt are both things I’ve had forever in my closet. I love styling stripes with unexpected colors and prints. I can’t even explain how I put this together, it literally just happened. I loved it but it needed something more, for sure. I did play around with several belts (because I love belting everything) and decided on my favorite tan belt. This tan color goes with everything! I always tell my clients: “tan is the new black” lol. Not that it really is the new black, but it sure is an awesome alternative. It is just as timeless and classic.

To match the belt I went with my favorite tan heels and clutch. I also added my go-to statement necklace, which you will probably see in almost all my blog posts (ha ha) …Don’t we all have that one piece of jewelry that we love and “goes” with everything?! I mean, if we love it and it really does go with everything, why not make the most of it?!

I really love this girly, semi-casual look. You can totally make this look work with flats to make it more comfy and casual or take away the tan details and dress it up.  Knowing what you have and playing with it is key when it comes to styling.

Are you guys ready to bring spring into your closets?! What’s your favorite trend for spring?

Nine to Five

I had a job interview the other day and I was getting so many compliments on my outfit that I decided to blog about it. It is rare for me to do the 'cliché', pants and a shirt look when it comes to job interviews. Some people underestimate the power of a good A-line skirt.

Having an interview (or an office job) does not equal boring. This shirt is like a classic button down, but with a twist. I love the ruffle and the military feel that the color, the gold buttons and shoulder details have. I decided to skip the pants and go for this beautiful skirt. This skirt is definitely one of the staple items in my closet. I mean, it is A-line and it is black... it can be styled in endless ways!

The tan colored belt (believe it or not) came with the skirt. Initially, I thought I should do the look without the belt, then I thought I should keep it classic and do a black belt; ultimately I decided to keep the tan belt. It compliments the look, it gives it a stylish feel and I am obsessed with the color. The shoes were a no brainer. Pointy shoes are classic, they are super 'in' right now and it was a job interview after all. I went with these ones with a gold detail on the back which brought the look together.

Bottom line is, work clothes can be versatile, stylish and fun.
You can always style it, give it a twist and still look appropriate. Remember to always look your best, you only get one chance to make a fist impression.

xoxo,
Ingrid Aixa

Grey Canvas

Neutral colors and basic pieces are my go-to when getting dressed. You can always pair them with trends to make them funky, dress them up, dress them down, add some color, etc.  In this look you can see how I play with the key pieces I talked about in my previous post.

Jeans and a sweater are pretty much what I gravitate towards when I want to be warm and comfy. However, that is no excuse to look bummy. I believe everything can be glammed up… everything can be styled.

On today’s look I decided to keep it casual and simple. I added a statement necklace with color to add a touch of glam, and because everything else was so neutral I was able to pull off a red bag, which added another pop of color. I also paired this outfit with some really, really old Forever 21 booties; they have the perfect everyday heel and are super comfy. These pieces make the outfit look stylish, put together, and like I actually tried, while still being warm and comfy which is what I wanted.

Can you guys see how statement pieces can easily transform an outfit that otherwise would look like you just rolled out of bed?! It’s all about working with what you have, it’s all in the styling.

xoxo,
Ingrid Aixa

My Classic

So, I wanted to share a little bit of me and my plans for 'Can You Style It?' before I officially start blogging tomorrow. My name is Ingrid Aixa, I was born in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico and was later raised in the capital of the world... New York City.

I've been wanting to start my blog for a while now, I came up with the name and created this page more than a year ago. Why did it take me so long to start blogging? I was letting little things stop me. I do not own a professional camera, I refuse to pay a fortune on photographers and graphic designers just to get everything how I want. I realized it's going to take some time to get good quality pictures and an awesome blog page.

My mother always tells me, "when there's a will, there's a way". I guess she's right, we all have to start somewhere. Sometimes I borrow a camera from a friend, sometimes I use my phone... Yes!
I will be using my phone to blog. It is a little challenging and frustrating considering all the amazing blogs that are out there, but I strongly believe that my confidence, passion and style will outshine everything else.

'Can You Style It?' is about working with what you have. We all have versatile, statement, and timeless pieces in our closets that can be styled in many different ways. For example: this fur vest I'm wearing is my favorite statement piece. The black pants are the most versatile piece I own (aside from blazers of course) and the button-down shirt, it's a basic,,, it's timeless.

I want you all to identify the key pieces in your closet and  challenge yourselves. Every time you open your closet, every time you go shopping... ask yourself, "Can You Style It?"
